Puerto Vallarta fishing in December — what's biting

September 28, 2026

December is one of the two or three best months to fish here, and it's not close.

The water has cooled, which pulls sailfish in tighter to the bay — shorter runs, more lines in the water. Dorado come back strong for their second run of the year after the late-spring lull. And the blue marlin that peaked a few weeks earlier are still holding at Corbeteña and El Banco into December, if you want to book the long day and go find one.

Inshore stays honest too: roosterfish never really leave, and the bay fishes well on a four-hour trip when you'd rather be back for lunch.

The tradeoff is demand. December is high season for everything in Vallarta, boats included — the good dates go first. If you're thinking about it, ask us on WhatsApp sooner rather than later and we'll tell you which weeks look best.
